A special teaser of the Telugu film, “Manmadhudu 2” starring Akkineni Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet released last week, and besides the positive feedback, the video clip has infuriated a section of the netizens.
The video introducing her character Avantika, playing a female version of Casanova in the film, can be spotted smoking towards the end of the teaser.
So, soon after the video was released, the 28-year-old actress got mercilessly trolled by Twitterati in the past few days. However, Rakul Preet Singh has finally reacted to the on-going scene and passed a befitting reply to haters.
The curvaceous diva spoke lengthily on the issue by citing the example of Shahid Kapoor from ‘Kabir Singh’ during the latest interaction with a reputed news portal.
In the interview, she said,
“I don't really get bothered by trolls. I think logo ka kaam hai kehna, kuch toh log kahenge. We are playing characters. Now, whether it is Kabir Singh... if Shahid is smoking in the film it does not make him a smoker. No way, he is promoting smoking. He is playing a character Arjun Reddy that is flawed and he does those things. In real life Shahid Kapoor is a vegetarian, we all know that.”
While answering the allegations of promoting smoking on the big screen, Rakul stated that her character is not a "generalized" representation of women.
“People should disassociate to what we are playing onscreen is different and it is a story of that one person... we are not putting the entire girl clan into girls not showing in the right way. That's not happening.”
She added,
“It is that one character Avantika that smokes and it's her story. Once you see the film, people will know why she does. Treat it like the character...For me, it was something different. I really don't pay attention to trolls...there are bigger and better things to do.”
Apart from Rakul Preet and Nagarjuna, Manmadhudu 2 also stars Vennela Kishore, Rao Ramesh, Lakshmi, and Jhansi in pivotal roles. The movie helmed by Rahul Ravindran has been co-produced by Annapurna Studios, Viacom 18 Studios, Manam Enterprises, and Anandi Art Creations. And, while M Sukumar has handled the cinematography, the music is being handled by Chaitan Bharadwaj.
Well, talking about the characters, Anand (Nagarjuna) is a single man, who is considered inappropriate for marriage because of his age. He is also deemed as an innocent seemingly to the extent that he can’t even make eye contact with a woman. However, it’s nothing like that because actually, he is a playboy. On describing him in his own words,
“He doesn’t fall in love. He only makes love.”
On the other hand, Avantika (Rakul) is a mirror image of Anand. Same as the hero, she also hides her forward personality, free-spirit, by appearing to play by the rules of the society.
But, when she seems to be away from her family, she is a different story altogether. She is comfortable in short dresses, smokes, drinks, and seems to have no hesitation in exposing her sexuality.
In an earlier interview about the movie, lead actress Rakul Preet opened up about her role in Manmadhudu 2. She said,
“It's too early to talk about Manmadhudu 2. All I can say is I'm having a blast shooting for it. I think it is one of the best characters I've played in my career in Tollywood.”
The flick, Manmadhudu 2, is said to be the sequel to the actor’s own 2002-film Manmadhudu, a romantic comedy in which Nagarjuna featured opposite Sonali Bendre.
The movie seems promising and is slated to hit the big screen on August 9, 2019.
