‘SOTY2’ Review: Tiger & Ananya Delivered Impressive Performances

And, finally, one of the most awaited flicks Student of the Year 2 featuring Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria, Ananya Panday, and Aditya Seal hit the screens yesterday. Since the day the trailer hit the internet, it became most awaited. Further, the songs of the flick also engaged the public successfully.

As it is a sequel to the 2012 film which launched Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra, there has been much buzz and hype around this film.

The story of the second venture is quite inspired by the first one which goes as a small town boy Rohan Sehgal (Tiger Shroff), madly in love with his childhood lover Mridula (Tara Sutaria), follows her to city’s top college. However, this chapter of life begins with new friends, foes and cut-throat competition along with heartbreak. And in that hassle, he is trying to beat the odds to become the Student of the Year.

Unlike SOTY, SOTY 2 doesn’t have that Ishq Wala love sequence but evident Dosti including high school drama stuff which keeps us hooked. It's always fun rooting for the underdog, and you'll find yourself doing that here, too. With enough lessons in styling and fashion, it's a fun and breezy watch for the young campus generation without much to fuss over.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Trade Analyst Girish Johar said,

“Avengers Endgame is done by now. It has already clocked huge numbers and has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark. I am not saying it will go away completely. It will have its market share but the audience is geared up for SOTY 2,”
He added,
“I peg it somewhere around Rs 12-13 crore. If the film is good, it can go up to Rs 15 crore and if the reviews and audience reaction is average, then it might get restricted to Rs 10 crore. If it is well made, it is poised to have a good run at the box office.”
He continued,
“Coming after the successful film Student Of The Year, wherein Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan were launched, the buzz around SOTY 2 is pretty much good. I think youth will definitely go to watch this movie. The trailer is peppy, youthful and energetic. Songs are good and are buzzing well. It is coming after two weeks of Avengers which has also slowed down a little at the ticket counters. So it is all good for SOTY 2.”
Also, Taran Adarsh, Indian film critic, took to Twitter and wrote about the opening day collection of the flick.
“#StudentOfTheYear2 puts up a fairly good total on Day 1... Biz slowed down towards evening shows... Sat and Sun crucial... Substantial growth - especially at plexes - is essential for a healthy total... Fri ₹ 12.06 cr. India biz. #SOTY2 is Tiger’s second highest opener *so far*.”

Later, Adarsh also compared other movies of Shroff in terms of collection,

“Tiger Shroff versus Tiger Shroff... *Day 1* biz... 2018: #Baaghi2 ₹ 25.10 cr 2019: #SOTY2 ₹ 12.06 cr 2016: #Baaghi ₹ 11.94 cr 2016: #AFlyingJatt ₹ 7.10 cr [Thu] 2017: #MunnaMichael ₹ 6.65 cr 2014: #Heropanti ₹ 6.63 cr India biz.”
