After Akshay Kumar depicted the problem of open defecation in last yeara��s film Toilet EK Prem Katha, this time hea��s back again with film Pad Man to put an end to widespread stigma surrounding menstruation and sanitary napkins.
The film draws inspiration from the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham who invented a machine that produces affordable sanitary napkins. Pad Man also features Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in key roles.
Making it the second biggest opener of 2018 so far, the movie raked in Rs 10.26 crore on its first day. The film has got rave reviews from critics its box office collection is expected to go up further over the weekend.
As the release of Neeraj Pandey's Aiyaary got postponed to February 16, PadMan got a solo release. Even before its release, the film was much of a talking point. #PadManChallenge is became one of the top trending hashtags on social media. All the credits go to participation of biggies from entertainment, sports and other fields.
This R Balkia��s directed film marks Twinkle Khannaa��s debut as a producer. Twinkle reported PTI,
"Through Pad Man, we want the story to reach every nook and corner of India. The motive is to raise awareness about sanitary hygiene."
