After giving a hit as Mardaani, Rani Mukherji is all set to entertain us with the next installment of Mardaani in the same cop avatar. Rani Mukherjee is giving us all cop vibes, which are outstanding and fierce.
And, today only, the makers of the film dropped its trailer. The sequel sees Shivani Roy on a quest to nab a serial rapist, while the 2014 film Mardaani dealt with the issue of human trafficking.
The flick, inspired by true events, is based in Kota, Rajasthan, as it is a town where students come to take IIT-JEE coaching from all over the country. The 2-minute-20-seconds trailer video opens with a girl asking for a lift from a guy. Eventually, that guy rapes her and then brutally murders her.
Here enters the cop Shivani Roy, who has been assigned this case to nab the rapist. And, it can be seen in the clip, the way she vows to arrest the serial rapist. The guy playing the role of villain in the flick is a newcomer.
Then it can be seen that the criminal leaves her clues and threatens Rani to commit more crimes, prompting her to put together a crack team and leaving no stone unturned in nabbing him. Further, this is followed by a cat-and-mouse-chase between the villain and the film's lead.
Director of the flick Gopi Puthran, once in an interview with IANS, said,
"Rani as Shivani will be seen in a massive showdown with a 21-year-old villain who is an embodiment of pure evil. He is a dangerous criminal who targets women."
Gopi Puthran was the writer of the first installment of the Mardaani Series, and now with the second film, he is doing his directorial debut.
The makers released the teaser of Mardaani 2 earlier on Navaratri. While talking about the movie, Rani said,
"The film will see a woman cop fighting a pure evil of a person to end crimes against women. As we all know, Navratri stands for the victory and battle of good over evil across India."
She added,
"Whether it is Goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura or Lord Rama's victory over Ravana, Navratri's significance is key to this asset launch. So, we decided to start the journey of Mardaani 2 on this auspicious occasion."

She also said once,
"Shivani will face a cold, merciless villain who has no empathy, no fear of God and is pure evil. The character has been written superbly and I'm excited to find out who the actor will be."
Rani also won Stardust Awards for Mardaani in 2015 in the category of Best Actress - Thriller/Action Female. Also, Rani was last seen in Hichki, which did well in India and also entered the Rs. 100 crore club in China.
The movie, Mardaani 2 is all set to hit the screens on December 13, 2019, i.e., a complete 1-month wait. But no wonder that the trailer already screams that the wait would be worth for this thriller.
However, the movie will clash with Emraan Hashmi’s next film – The Body, as it will also release on 13th December. And, as they both are thrillers, they both will give a tough competition to each other at the box office. Well, only the time would tell which film would do well.
