It’s Confirmed: Varun & Sara to Recreate 'Main Toh Raste Se Ja Raha Tha'

Earlier this year, a piece of news came that the remake of David Dhawan's 1995 movie Coolie No.1 was very much in the works. Varun Dhawan himself confirmed this news. He took to his official Instagram and wrote,

“Aaj ka Din , Agle Saal Aega Coolie No.1 - Hoga Kamaal !!! Coolie No.1 releases on May 1, 2020 🤩🥳🎥🌟 #DavidDhawan @Saraalikhan95 #VashuBhagnani @pooja_ent #1YearForCoolieNo.1”

Since that day only, fans are excited and can't wait to see the film on the big screen. And, later fans got super excited by the news that the leading lady to be romantically paired opposite Varun will be Sara Ali Khan.

And, now to raise the excitement, the makers revealed that Coolie No. 1's hit song ‘Main Toh Raste Se Ja Raha Tha’ will be recreated in the remake.

Yes, filmmaker Dhawan has confirmed the news that the song remake is happening.

A source said,

"Given the popularity of the track Main Toh Raste Se, the makers are planning to present the reprised version of the same to add to the nostalgia. However, the discussion on the same is at a very nascent stage currently."
A report quoted David as saying that this song’s recall value plays a huge role in the success of a film. He said,
“It is an important song for our film, and it has the heart. But times have changed so I am going to picturise it very differently with Varun and Sara.”
The director has confirmed that the original would not so much be messed with and the new version would be composed by Tanishk Bagchi. Coolie No.1 would be produced by David Dhawan and Vashu Bhagnani.

David highlighted that Bhel Puri is one of Mumbai's signature street foods, the original song was filmed in Bengaluru and reminded about the same.

Further, he was quoted as saying,

“We found a place in Bangalore with a lot of Bhel Puri stalls and had the lead pair (Govinda and Karisma) strolling through it, exploring 'Mumbai’. I thought it was the best way to capture the essence of the Maximum City back then.”
Later he was asked what can be anticipated out of the adaptation. He concluded,
“It’s a fun song, showing the growing bond between the couple.”
The movie, slated to go into production on August 5, is also supposed to feature Paresh Rawal. Moreover, there have also been talks that Anupam will be seen taking on Kader Khan's role in place of Karisma Kapoor’s father in the original. According to reports, veteran star Paresh Rawal might come on-board for the film.

Varun Dhawan had revealed earlier in an interview to PTI that the makers are not planning a scene-by-scene remake of Coolie No 1.

"When we do something like this the idea is that the essence has to be the same. But at the same time, the film is completely different. It is not a remake, it is an adaptation. But the title is the same."
The movie is slated to hit the screens on May 1, 2020.
