#DreamGirl: The Biggest Opener of Ayushmann Khurrana's Career

After the overwhelming response on the trailer, the film is finally here and has already hit the huge numbers at the box office. Here we are talking about Ayushmann’s latest cinematic offering Dream Girl.  The romantic comedy is having a dream run at the box office as it saw significant growth in its business on Sunday and added Rs 18.10 crore more to its kitty.

It had shown a growth of around 63% on Saturday, i.e., second day with collections of Rs 16.42 crore, after opening at a whopping Rs 10.05 crore. Hence, after the first-weekend run, its total business stands at Rs 44.57 crore.

Trade Analyst and Movie Critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and wrote its numbers. He wrote,

“#DreamGirl runs riot at the BO... Packs a fantastic total, setting the BO on 🔥🔥🔥 on Day 2 and 3... Trends better than #Raazi [₹ 32.94 cr], #Stree [₹ 32.27 cr] and #Uri [₹ 35.73 cr]... Fri 10.05 cr, Sat 16.42 cr, Sun 18.10 cr. Total: ₹ 44.57 cr. #India biz.”

In his other tweet, he compared some past movies of Ayushmann like AndhaDhun and Badhaai Ho and wrote,

“#AyushmannKhurrana versus #AyushmannKhurrana... Opening Weekend biz:
2019: #DreamGirl ₹ 44.57 cr
2018: #BadhaaiHo ₹ 45.70 cr [extended 4-day wknd]
2019: #Article15 ₹ 20.04 cr
2018: #AndhaDhun ₹ 15 cr
2017: #ShubhMangalSaavdhan ₹ 14.46 cr
2017: #BareillyKiBarfi ₹ 11.52 cr”

Well, the movie is not only earning big but also breaking the stereotype that “no need to carry your brain while watching a comedy film.” Dream Girl is far different from run-of-the-mill comedies that try hard to tickle your funny bone but in vain.

The movie revolves around Karamveer Singh’s (Ayushmann’s character) story, who first struggles as a child and unwillingly agrees to play the role of Sita in his town’s Ramlila, even till his mid-20s. It’s all because he has a gift that he can do a perfect female voice.

But soon jobless Karam lands a job at a shady adult hotline for the sake of money where he needs to talk to his clients in a woman’s voice. It’s a night-shift job that pays handsomely. However, soon he lands in a tricky situation as many of his clients fell in love with him, his voice and his hotline persona.

While reviewing the flick, Taran Adarsh earlier wrote,

“#OneWordReview...DreamGirl: WINNER.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ayushmann Khurrana continues his dream run... Full-on entertainer with dollops of humour... Garnished with witty lines... Ayushmann, Annu Kapoor terrific... Raaj Shaandilyaa’s direction hits the right chord. #DreamGirlReview”

Dream Girl stars Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame Nushrat Bharucha opposite Ayushmann and is written and directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa. The film also features Annu Kapoor, Manjot Singh, Vijay Raaz, Rajesh Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee, and Nidhi Bisht in key roles among others. It is a joint production venture between ALT Entertainment, Balaji Motion Pictures, and Zee Studios.
