Love is hard, and it gets even harder when it goes beyond society’s conventions. The upcoming film ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ attempts to put bring to light one such form true love that is rarely expressed and hardly acknowledged.
Billed as “The Most Unexpected Romance of the Year,” the film sends out the message “Let Love Be” to probably make people understand that love should not be discriminated. Set in the backdrop of Punjab, it portrays the love story of Sweety (played by Sonam K Ahuja) which appears to be filled with ‘syapas’ as she says “Love story mein koi na koi syappa toh hota he hota hai” in the trailer.
The film’s plot revolves around the Sonam’s over-enthusiastic family and the secret she hides deep inside her heart. Her family is looking for a suitable match for her and only wants her to get married, but she doesn’t want to. The trailer shows that her family mistakes Rajkumar and Sonam’s friendship to be love. Then what we see is a secret Sonam keeps close to her heart and is afraid to share with anyone else but Rajkumar (who loves her). A glimpse of Sonam hugging another woman and another one in which two women are seen being torn apart by a mob indicate that Sonam might be in love with a girl.
In one scene from the trailer, when she ultimately reveals her truth to her father (real-life father Anil Kapoor), her truth does not go down well with him. He then says that he never expected this from her and so does she as a response to him. The surfacing and resolving of these issues will be depicted in the film in a journey full of hilarious, poignant & life-altering moments. It will also throw light on the beautiful and emotional bond between the father and the daughter.
Sonam in the lead role looks powerful and promising in the 2-minute, 34 seconds long trailer. Besides Rajkumar Rao and Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla is also in the pivotal role. The film’s title comes from a popular song “Ek Ladki ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga” from the hit movie “1942: A Love Story” which starred Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala.

The film is directed by Shelly Chopra Dhar and produced by Vinod Chopra Films in association with Fox Star Studios. It is co-written by Gazal Dhaliwal. The music has been given by Rochak Kohli, and the lyrics of the songs are penned by Gurpreet Saini.
The movie is slated to release in the theatres on 1 Feb 2019.
